9 Must-Visit Christmas Markets in Asia
When you think of Christmas markets, your mind might instantly wander to the cobblestone streets of Europe, where the air is crisp with the scent of mulled wine and the glow of fairy lights illuminates centuries-old squares.
But for those of us in Singapore, the journey to these winter wonderlands often means long flights, having to take many annual leave days, and a significant dent in the travel budget. What if we told you that the magic of Christmas markets could be much closer than you think?
Right here in Asia, you could be just a short flight away from immersing yourself in European-inspired festive atmospheres without having to cross continents. Asian Christmas markets are also brimming with unique crafts, delectable treats, and that unmistakable yuletide spirit — but they also weave in local culture and traditions that may also resonate with us.
So pack light, book a quick getaway, secure your travel insurance, and let’s explore 9 of the best Christmas markets in 3 Asian destinations that await to dazzle you.
✈️ Tokyo, Japan
Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Christmas Market
Till 25 December 2025
The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Christmas Market (30 minutes from Tokyo) is inspired by the Christmas markets in Cologne and features authentic German “hütte” (wooden huts) and German cuisine from stews to warm beer. Its iconic 10-metre Christmas tree – a real fir tree! – is decorated with 20,000 lights and features a special illumination every 15 minutes; and right next door is an ice skating rink open all winter through February. This location also offers the most beautiful festive waterfront views!
Roppongi Hills Christmas Market
Till 25 December 2025
Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills Christmas Market is one of the oldest in Japan, celebrating its 19th year this year. Held in a semi-outdoor space with a large glass roof, it’s a small recreation of what a Christmas market in Stuttgart would feel like, including German sausages and Christmas goods for sale.
This Christmas market is best enjoyed together with the rest of the Roppongi Hills illuminations — after 5pm the 400-metre-long Keyakizaka-dori/avenue is dotted with almost a million white and blue lights that evoke a world of silver wonder. Be prepared to brave the crowds trying to capture that perfect photo of the lit-up street with the glowing Roppongi Tower in the background. The illumination magic also continues across Roku-Roku Plaza and the nearby Mohri Gardens so get exploring!
Tokyo Christmas Market
Till 25 December 2025
The Tokyo Christmas Market takes place over two different venues, each with its own unique theme. At Jingu Gaien, the winter market immerses visitors in a whimsical world of Grimm’s fairy tales through festive lights and music. At Shiba Park, you’ll enjoy a more traditional experience, with German culture and craftsmanship creating an authentic market atmosphere. For the first time ever, both sites will feature a towering 14-metre Christmas pyramid, making the celebration doubly impressive. The market is also renowned for its elaborate Christmas illuminations and cheery live musical performances.
Travel Tip!
You have to purchase separate tickets for each of these market sites. Purchasing your admission tickets from KKday also entitles you to a free Christmas mug souvenir (red mug from Jingu Gaien and green mug from Shiba Park).

Meanwhile, its Myeongdong branch gives off more of an Alice in Wonderland vibe, with red and white checkered tiles, illuminated trees, sweet treats, and intricate ornaments.
