Medical Coverage

Medical emergencies overseas can be costly. That's why the Voyager plan includes $500,000 overseas medical cover as standard, giving you strong protection wherever your travels take you. Even better, every adult, child, and senior on your policy receives the same level of cover, because protection shouldn't depend on age.

Protection shouldn’t depend on age

The same cover for adults, children, and seniors

Many travel insurers reduce medical limits for children and seniors — sometimes to half the adult amount. The Voyager plan treats everyone on your policy equally. If your parents or your kids need medical care overseas, they get the same protection you do.

Overseas medical cover — Voyager vs. typical market approach. Same limits for every traveller — regardless of age.

What’s included

What the $500,000 medical cover pays for

Your overseas medical cover is comprehensive — designed to handle both the unexpected and the serious, wherever you are.

Hospital stays and treatment overseas
Inpatient and outpatient medical care, surgery, specialist consultations, anaesthesia, and related hospital costs incurred during your trip — for injury or illness that begins overseas.
Up to $500,000

Follow-up care when you’re back in Singapore
Getting home doesn’t mean your cover stops. We cover follow-up treatment in Singapore for up to 30 days after your return, for conditions first treated overseas or first received within 48 hours of returning to Singapore. If you didn’t received treatment overseas first, a one-time $30 excess per visit applies.
Up to $20,000

TCM, physiotherapy and chiropractic
Licensed traditional Chinese medicine treatment is covered overseas, with a sub-limit of $50 per visit and a $30 excess per visit. If the first treatment was received overseas or within 48 hours of returning to Singapore, follow-up treatments are also covered up to 30 days after your return to Singapore.
Up to $500 total

Emergency dental treatment
If an accident during your trip damages your natural teeth, emergency dental treatment overseas is covered. This covers the accident — not routine dental care or pre-existing dental conditions.
Within overall medical limit

Mobility aids
If treatment overseas means you need a wheelchair, crutches, or a cane to get around, we cover the cost of medically necessary mobility aids purchased during your trip.
Up to $3,000

Emergency evacuation and repatriation
If your condition requires you to be moved to a better-equipped hospital abroad or brought home to Singapore, evacuation and repatriation costs are covered separately — on top of your medical limit, not instead of it.
Up to $1,000,000

Good to know

A few things that fall outside the medical cover

Our cover is designed for unexpected medical events during your trip. Here’s what it’s not intended for — useful to understand before you travel rather than after.

Pre-existing medical conditions  The policy covers conditions that arise during your trip, not conditions you were already aware of or being treated for in the 12 months before departure. If you have an ongoing condition, it’s worth speaking to your doctor about whether you’re fit to travel before you book your trip.

Routine dental care  Dental treatment for check-ups, fillings, implants, or gum disease aren’t covered. The dental cover applies to accidents — if a tooth is damaged in a fall or a collision, that’s covered. A pre-scheduled appointment isn’t.

Elective and cosmetic procedures  Non-emergency procedures, cosmetic treatments, and surgeries not directly related to the injury or illness requiring hospital care are outside the scope of the medical cover.

Pregnancy and childbirth  Pregnancy-related conditions, childbirth, and miscarriage are general exclusions. If you’re pregnant, check with your doctor before travelling and ensure you understand your protection.

Over-the-counter medication and supplements  Medication bought from a pharmacy without a prescription such as vitamins, and health supplements aren’t covered. Prescribed medication from a treating doctor during the trip is covered as part of your overall medical expenses.

Optional upgrade

Need more? Upgrade to $750,000

The $500,000 base limit is sufficient for most trips to most destinations. For certain destinations and traveller profiles, a little more headroom gives extra peace of mind.

Base Cover — Included as Standard
$500,000
Overseas medical cover for every insured person — adult, child, and senior — on your policy. No additional cost. No age-based reductions.
Enhanced Cover — Optional
$750,000
50% more medical cover for trips where you want additional headroom. Same equal-limits principle applies to all travellers.

Who the upgrade is worth considering for:

Travellers visiting the United States
Healthcare costs in the US are significantly higher than anywhere else. If your trip includes a stop in the US, the upgrade may be worth the additional premium.

Extended trips of 30 days or more
Longer trips naturally carry more exposure. If you’re away for a month or more, the $750,000 limit gives you more room if treatment extends over a longer period.

Older travellers who want extra reassurance
If you’re travelling as a senior and want additional cover beyond the already-high $500,000 base, the upgrade is straightforward to add at the time of purchase.

FAQ

Common questions about travel insurance medical cover

Is my child covered at the same medical limit as me?

Yes — children aged 15 days to below 18 are covered at the same $500,000 medical limit as adults. That applies to every child on your policy. Many insurers cap children’s medical limits at 50% of the adult amount. With Voyager, everyone on the policy travels with the same level of protection.

I’m bringing my elderly parents. Are they fully covered?

Yes. Seniors aged 71 to below 81 are covered at the same $500,000 limit as every other insured person on the policy. Persons aged 81 or above are not eligible to be insured under this policy. Everyone named on your policy needs to be in good health at the time of purchase and not travelling against medical advice.

What if I need medical care after I get home?

You’re covered for follow-up treatments by a doctor in Singapore for up to 30 days after your return. If you did not seek your first treatment overseas, you need to do so within 48 hours of arriving in Singapore. A one-time $30 excess applies. You are also covered for TCM treatments up to $50 per visit, subject to $30 excess per visit, whether the treatments were received overseas or in Singapore. Follow-up TCM treatments are covered for up to 30 days after you return to Singapore.

What happens if I need a doctor and can’t pay upfront?

For serious medical emergencies, call the DirectAsia Travel Assist hotline at +65 6991 3555 — available 24 hours. Our team can coordinate care and, where appropriate, issue a Guarantee of Payment directly to the hospital so you’re not left managing large bills on the spot. For smaller or less urgent situations, you would typically pay and claim reimbursement with original receipts and medical reports afterwards.

Does the $500,000 limit reset for each trip if I’m on an annual plan?

Yes. On an annual policy, the $500,000 medical limit applies per trip — not across the entire year. Each trip you take within your annual period of insurance starts with a fresh $500,000 limit.

Is emergency evacuation part of the $500,000 limit or separate?

Separate. Emergency evacuation and repatriation is covered up to $1,000,000 per trip — completely independent of your medical expenses limit. It doesn’t draw from your medical expenses limit. If you need both treatment and evacuation, both limits are available to you independently.

Are pre-existing conditions covered?

Pre-existing conditions aren’t covered under the Voyager. A pre-existing condition is anything you were aware of — or received treatment for — in the 12 months before your trip. If you’re managing a chronic condition and planning to travel, it’s worth speaking to your doctor first about whether travel is advisable and understanding what that means for your cover.

Does travel insurance cover pregnancy?

Pregnancy-related conditions, childbirth, and miscarriage are general exclusions under the policy and are not covered under the medical section. If you’re pregnant and considering travel, speak to your obstetrician first — both about whether it’s medically advisable and to understand how your insurance position is affected.
