What’s covered
How Special Events Cover works
This cover applies when your scheduled public transport is cancelled, postponed, or delayed and you are at risk of missing your booked event. Depending on what happens, we cover one of two things – up to $2,500.
How it works (terms and conditions apply)
- You book an event and buy this cover
You must have already accepted an invitation to or booked the special event before purchasing Special Events Cover. The event must start at a scheduled time and both start and end on the same day.
Event must be booked before purchasing cover - Your transport is cancelled, postponed, or delayed
Your original booked public transport must have been scheduled to arrive within 24 hours before the event start time. It is then cancelled, postponed, or delayed such that you would miss the event.
Applies to flights, trains, buses, ferries and cruises - Choose the applicable option
Option 1: If alternative transport is available, we reimburse your replacement public transport to arrive at your destination at the next earliest time.
Option 2: If you cannot attend the event at all due to the public transport disruption, we reimburse the cost of your event ticket or booking instead.
Up to $2,500 per insured

Conditions
What you need to do for the cover to apply
Five conditions. Know these before you travel so you’re not caught out in the event of a claim.
Book the event before buying cover
You must have accepted an invitation to or booked the special event before purchasing this optional cover. You can’t add it retroactively after the event is booked — both need to happen before departure.
Your transport must be scheduled to arrive within 24 hours of the event start
The cover only triggers when your original public transport was due to arrive at the destination within 24 hours before the event starts. If your transport was scheduled to arrive days before, this cover doesn’t apply to that journey.
Arrive at the same destination airport, terminal, or station
Your replacement transport must bring you to the same destination airport, terminal, or station as your original booking. You cannot claim for transport to a different entry point.
Confirm your original return flight if taking a replacement outbound flight
If you book a replacement outbound flight, you must inform your original return flight provider that you will be keeping your scheduled return booking. Failing to do this may affect your claim.
Event tickets must be from a licensed platform with a receipt
To claim the cost of your event ticket under Option 2, the ticket must have been purchased through a licensed platform that issues a receipt. Tickets from unofficial resellers, peer-to-peer transfers, or without a receipt are not eligible.
Good to know
What Special Events Cover doesn’t pay for
This cover is purposefully focused. These items are explicitly excluded regardless of the circumstances.
- Both replacement transport and the event ticket in the same claim. We pay one or the other – up to $2,500 in total.
- Unused original transport tickets. We do not pay for any forgone or unused public transport tickets from your original booking.
- Delayed flights that still arrive 2+ hours before the event. If your delayed transport will still arrive at least 2 hours before the event starts, this cover does not pay out.
- Events cancelled or postponed within 48 hours of your departure. If the special event itself cancels or postpones less than 48 hours before your scheduled departure, this cover does not apply.
- Events not requiring attendance at a specific time. Theme parks, multi-day passes, exhibitions without fixed entry times, and open-dated bookings are excluded.
- Events tickets not from licensed platforms. Only tickets purchased through a licensed platform that issues a receipt are eligible for reimbursement under Option 2.
- Taxis and ride-hailing. Only licensed, scheduled public transport qualifies – flights, trains, buses, coaches, ferries, and cruises.

FAQ
Common questions about Special Events Cover
Can i claim both replacement and my event ticket cost?
No. We will reimburse either the cost of your replacement transport (Option 1) or the cost of your event ticket (Option 2) - but not both in the same claim.
My flight was cancelled and there’s no way to get there in time. Can i claim my event ticket back?
Yes – this is what Option 2 covers. If the transport disruption means you cannot attend the event at all, we reimburse the cost of your event booking or ticket up to $2,500. Your ticket must have been purchased through a licensed platform that issues a receipt. Tickets from unofficial resellers or without a receipt are not eligible.
What if i bought my event ticket from a reseller or received it from a friend?
Event tickets must have been purchased through a licensed platform that issues a receipt. Tickets acquired from resellers, peer-to-peer transfers, or any channel that doesn’t provide a formal receipt are not eligible for reimbursement.
I’m flying to Seoul for a K-pop fan meeting. Does that qualify?
Yes — a fan meeting qualifies as a special event as long as it has a specific scheduled start time and concludes on the same day. You must have your fan meeting booking confirmed before purchasing this cover, your original flight must have been scheduled to arrive within 24 hours of the fan meeting start time, and your event ticket must have been purchased through a licensed platform with a receipt.
My flight was delayed but I still made it before the event started. Can I claim for the stress?
No. The cover only triggers if the delay means you would miss the event — specifically, if your delayed transport would not arrive at least 2 hours before it starts. If you made it in time, no claim is payable under this section. You may still have a standard travel delay claim under the base Voyager plan for $50 per 3 hours of delay.
Can I claim for private hire vehicles or a taxi to rush to the venue?
No. Only licensed, scheduled public transport qualifies — flights, trains, buses, coaches, ferries, and cruises. Taxis and private hire vehicles are excluded regardless of the circumstances.
