FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Voyager Travel Insurance
What’s the difference between single trip and annual travel insurance?
A single trip policy covers one specific journey — you choose your destination and travel dates, and you’re covered for that trip. It’s the simpler choice if you travel once or twice a year or have a particular trip in mind.
Our annual policy covers unlimited trips within a 12-month period, with each individual trip lasting up to 90 consecutive days. If you travel three or more times a year, annual is typically more cost-effective — and means you never have to remember to sort insurance before each flight. Annual policies also auto-renew, so your cover continues seamlessly year after year without you having to do a thing – you can turn this off at any time by calling us on 6665 5555 or complete the Automatic Renewal Opt-Out Request Form.
Does it cover flight delays and cancellations?
Yes — both are covered as standard on every Voyager plan. For travel delays, we pay $50 for every 3 consecutive hours your scheduled public transport is delayed, up to $1,000. This applies to flight delays, missed connections, diverted transport, and even overbooked flights where you’re denied boarding. For trip cancellation, we reimburse your non-refundable prepaid costs — flights, hotels, tours, and event tickets — if a covered event forces you to cancel before departure. This includes natural disasters, serious illness, airline insolvency, and more. You choose your own cancellation limit of up to $20,000. See: directasia.com/travel-insurance/trip-cancellation
Are children and seniors covered at the same level as adults?
Yes — and this is something many travel insurers in Singapore don’t do. The Voyager plan gives every insured person the same $500,000 base overseas medical cover, regardless of age. Adults, children (from 15 days old to below 18), and seniors (aged 71 to below 81) are all covered at the same limit. Other insurers usually offer reduced medical limits for children or senior travellers — sometimes at half of what an adult is covered for. With DirectAsia, everyone on your policy travels with the same level of protection. See: directasia.com/travel-insurance/medical
Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?
No — pre-existing medical conditions are not covered under the Voyager plan. A pre-existing condition is any injury, illness, or symptom you were aware of, or received medical treatment for, in the 12 months before the start of your trip. This applies to everyone named on the policy. If you or a travelling companion has an ongoing condition, it’s worth speaking to your doctor before booking to understand whether travel is advisable. If you’re unsure about a specific condition, call us on 6665 5555 before you buy.
Can I get covered for a trip I’ve already booked?
Yes — you can buy a Voyager policy at any point before your trip departs from Singapore. There’s no restriction on how far in advance you need to buy. One thing to note: trip cancellation and postponement cover requires the policy to be purchased at least 72 hours before your scheduled departure. If you buy within that window, all other sections — medical, travel delay, baggage, and more — still apply from the moment you purchase. Only cancellation and postponement is excluded. The simplest habit is to buy your travel insurance at the same time you book your flights. That way you’re covered from the start, cancellation is included, and there’s nothing to remember before you leave.
