Best Multi-Currency Card for Travel (2025)

If you’re a fan of saving money wherever you can when it comes to travelling, then this article is a must-read.
You’re subscribed to promo airfares alerts, you compare prices across different travel booking sites, you’ve secured your DirectAsia travel insurance to cover potential medical expenses, and you’re looking for a overseas travel card that lets you spend freely while travelling without incurring foreign transaction fees.
E-wallets with multi-currency cards are certainly your best answer. But with digital wallet platforms like Instarem Amaze, Revolut, Wise, and YouTrip, which one suits your needs the best? Because the whole point is to have just ONE overseas travel card, isn’t it? No point bringing all four?
This comprehensive article goes into a detailed comparison of all four multi-currency debit card options, so you can easily understand and pick the best travel card that works for you.
Reasons to Get a Multi-Currency Card
The most compelling reasons to sign up for a multi currency account?
✅ Manage multiple currencies in one place
✅ No foreign transaction fees, unlike credit cards which charge 3% to 3.5%
✅ Easily convert currencies on your own — and say goodbye to any markups usually enjoyed by banks or money changers.
✅ Competitive (FX) foreign exchange rates
✅ Zero or low currency conversion fees
Spending EUR in Europe | |
With a credit card | With a multi-currency card |
❌ Get charged in SGD or USD depending on your credit card’s base currency | ✅ Before your trip, convert SGD to EUR when it’s at the best rate |
❌ Be constrained to whatever the bank’s exchange rate is at that moment | ✅ When in Europe, spend from your EUR local currency balance |
❌ Pay 3-3.5% foreign transaction fees | ✅ No foreign transaction fees |
Even if you don’t convert your currency ahead of time, multi-currency accounts boast being able to offer you much better foreign exchange rates.
To give an example, we tested spending €250 euro at the same time using different cards, and this would be what we’d actually be paying for a live currency conversion. All multi-currency cards do not charge a FX fee except Wise.:
Spending €250 | Exchange rate | |
Credit card | S$380.10 | 1.52% |
Revolut | S$368.69 | 1.475% |
Wise (incl. FX fee) | S$368.29 | 1.473% |
Instarem Amaze | S$367.39 | 1.469% |
YouTrip | S$367.36 | 1.469% |
Information accurate as of 2 June 2025; exchange rates will always fluctuate
Fairly similar exchange rates across all four platforms, and significantly cheaper than it would cost swiping your credit card. Oh and did we mention, no annual fees?
But if all four cards offer great foreign exchange rates, what sets them apart from each other? Read on.

So, Which Card is Good for What?
All four multi-currency cards offer a plethora of benefits. And no one card is without its flaws. So picking one should really come down to which travel card works best for your needs while you’re travelling.
Have a preference for a global payment network?
Mastercard Debit Card: Amaze & YouTrip
Visa Debit Card: Revolut & Wise
Need to manage many different currencies?
Wise: 47 currencies
Revolut: 39 currencies
YouTrip: 12 currencies
Amaze: 11 currencies
Want the option to spend from wallet OR link to a Mastercard?
Only Amaze gives you the option to link to Mastercard credit cards.
Want to be able to top up instantly via PayNow?
You can top up via PayNow with Amaze, Wise and YouTrip. Revolut doesn’t have this option.
Want an account that automatically secures the best FX rates for you?
With Wise and Revolut, you’re able to follow Forex charts and set orders to only convert when it hits your preferred rate. The difference is this process is incredibly easy with Wise, and more complicated with Revolut.
Want a card that you can trust to convert foreign currency spending at the best FX rate?
When you have an insufficient balance, Wise is the only one smart enough to choose to pay out of the next currency balance that has the best live FX rate. The rest all follow a fixed order.
Need local bank account details to receive foreign currencies?
Only Wise gives you that option, with 23 local bank account details you can share with your sender.
Like to know exactly what fees you’re paying?
Wise is the only card of the four that charges you a small fee for every currency conversion. This is not to say that they’re the ones with the worst deal. All platforms need to charge some kind of fee to keep their business going, so it could very well be that most platforms simply build their fee into the final conversion amount, so that they can promote “No FX fees”, while Wise is the only one being transparent about their fees. As always, it’s best that you compare the various foreign exchange rates and currency conversion fees before converting.
Need to withdraw money from overseas ATMs?
Amaze always charges a 2% fee, but there are no overseas ATM withdrawal fees with the other three cards. YouTrip offers the most generous cap at S$400 per month; Revolut S$350 or 5 withdrawals, and Wise S$350 or 2 withdrawals.
Need to pay via QR code?
Only Revolut and Wise allow payment or transfers via QR codes from merchants or personal users.
Want to accumulate points for KrisFlyer miles while spending?
This is only available with Instarem Amaze’s InstaPoints programme.
Plan to use the card most in Malaysia?
YouTrip would probably be the best choice, as it has exclusive cashback and discounts with selected Malaysian stores. Amaze and Wise both have MYR wallets, but Revolut does not even have one.
Like the idea of virtual cards for safer online shopping?
Virtual cards have separate details from your main card, which you can freeze after payments to avoid card misuse. Set up up to 20 virtual cards with Revolut, and 3 virtual cards with Wise. Revolut also offers single-use “disposable” cards that regenerate after each purchase.
Want to send and receive money from overseas family and friends?
With Wise’s 23 foreign currency local bank details, this is not a problem. You can also do this with Revolut but the other person has to also be a Revolut user. This is not possible with Instarem Amaze and YouTrip as these are exclusively Singapore platforms.
💳 Instarem Amaze
Best For: Link to 5 Mastercards, or earn KrisFlyer miles
Why Travel With the Instarem Amaze Card?
✅ Mastercard Debit card privileges
✅ Multi-currency account holds 11 currencies
✅ No foreign transaction fees
✅ No currency conversion fees
✅ Link 5 Mastercards
✅ Earn InstaPoints for KrisFlyer miles
Instarem Amaze Multi-Currency Card
A fairly new player, Instarem Amaze started offering its multi-currency account in March 2025. You can now hold 11 currencies, the least of all four cards. However, Amaze supports the Canadian dollar (CAD), which YouTrip does not.
11 CURRENCIES: AUD, CAD, CHF, EUR, GBP, JPY, MYR, NZD, SGD, THB, USD
Link 5 Mastercards
Instarem Amaze is the only multi-currency travel card that allows you to link 5 Mastercard debit/credit cards, while all the other cards are prepaid wallets that require topping up.
Technically this should allow you to enjoy all the discounts and cashback benefits from those debit/credit cards as well, but you’ll have to check with your bank, because some DBS and UOB cards have excluded Amaze transactions from their rewards programmes.
You can also easily switch between credit cards via the Instarem app. You can already do this with Apple Pay and Google Pay, but some may like having this flexibility also with a physical card.
Earn InstaPoints
The Amaze InstaPoints reward structure currently looks like this:
- Earn 0.5 IP with every S$1 spent (with minimum S$10 spent)
- Earn IP also with every money transfer (above S$500)
- There is no cap on how many IPs you can earn a month
- Only applicable when you spend from your Amaze wallet
- Redeem IP for up to S$5 discount when remitting money overseas (above S$500)
- Redeem 1,200 IP for 400 KrisFlyer miles (additional fee applies)
If you regularly send money overseas, this could be useful for you. You can’t earn double KrisFlyer miles on both your Amaze card and your KrisFlyer credit cards though.
Things We Don’t Like About the Instarem Amaze Card
❌ 1% domestic fee
❌ Unattractive InstaPoints
❌ 2% overseas ATM withdrawal fee
❌ Fixed currency order for auto spending
Local Spending Deterred
There are no fees when you use your Amaze card in Singapore — as long as you’re spending from your Amaze wallet. Spending from your linked Mastercard will incur a 1% domestic fee on all SGD transactions. So your S$300 grocery shopping will become S$303 if you forget to choose your Amaze wallet as the payment source over your linked credit card.
Unattractive InstaPoints
First of all, it’s not straightforward to earn InstaPoints. Only purchases made from your wallet earn you IP, spending from your linked credit card doesn’t. You also only get points for transactions above S$10 (or equivalent in foreign currency), so not really the card to whip out if you’re just buying a coffee. And you can only redeem IPs against discounts on money remittance or KrisFlyer miles, so if neither are important to you, then what’s the point?
2% Overseas ATM Withdrawal Fee
If you need to withdraw money from an ATM while overseas, you’ll have to pay a 2% overseas ATM cash withdrawal fee per withdrawal, no matter the amount. However, it does allow you to withdraw up to S$1,000 daily.
Fixed Currency Order for Auto Spending
Your Amaze card will spend in local currency first, but if it runs out of money, it’ll auto convert from your base currency (SGD), followed by a fixed order^ of currencies. This may not secure the best FX rate for you, unlike Wise.
^ Amaze auto spending works in this order specifically:
SGD, EUR, JPY, GBP, AUD, CHF, NZD, USD, CAD, THB, MYR

💳 Revolut
Best for: Multiple-use virtual cards & single-use Disposable cards
Why Travel With the Revolut Card?
✅ Visa Debit card privileges
✅ Standard plan is free
✅ Multi-currency account holds 39 currencies
✅ No foreign transaction fees
✅ No currency conversion fees on weekdays
✅ Free overseas ATM withdrawals (S$350 or 5 withdrawals per month)
✅ 5 free withdrawals to your SG bank a month
✅ Set up up to 20 virtual cards
✅ Generate one-time use disposable cards
✅ Revolut app features
✅ Perks and promotions
Revolut Multi-Currency Card
Your Revolut account allows you to hold and transfer 39 currencies, the next best after Wise’s 47. Revolut is the only platform that doesn’t have an MYR wallet, but it’s also the only one that supports Qatar rial.
(See table below comparing Wise VS Revolut currencies)
39 CURRENCIES: AED, AUD, BGN, CAD, CHF, CLP, CNY, COP, CZK, DKK, EGP, EUR, GBP, HKD, HUF, IDR, ILS, INR, ISK, JPY, KRW, KZT, MAD, MXN, NOK, NZD, PHP, PLN, QAR, RON, RSD, SAR, SEK, SGD, THB, TRY, USD, VND, ZAR
Virtual & Disposable Cards
When it comes to setting up virtual cards for safer shopping online or overseas, Revolut is undefeatable — you can have up to 20 virtual cards at any one time. Revolut is the only platform that allows you to generate “Disposable” cards for one-time use purposes.
Revolut App
Besides being able to freeze and unfreeze your card easily, you can also share a joint account, set up savings ‘Pockets’, track expenses, and receive transaction notifications. Revolut Shops also offers some cashback and offers from selected promotional partners.
What We Don’t Like About the Revolut Card
❌ No PayNow top-up option
❌ 1% currency conversion fee on weekends and >S$5,000
❌ Complicated currency exchange
❌ Fixed currency order for auto spending
❌ No MYR wallet
No PayNow Top-up Option
Revolut is the only digital wallet out of the four that doesn’t support PayNow top-ups. Your options are debit or credit cards, linked bank account, or manual bank transfer, which may not show up instantly in your account.
Weekend FX Fees
Foreign currency exchange in your Revolut account is free on weekdays, but expect to pay a 1% fee on the weekend. It gets more complicated because this follows the U.S. Eastern timing (ET), so “Weekend” starts at 5am on Saturday until 6am on Monday, Singapore time.
This fee doesn’t only apply to manual in-wallet foreign currency conversions. If your local currency balance is insufficient and Revolut is required to take from another currency balance, this auto conversion is also subject to 1% if it’s on the weekend.
Currency Exchange Limit
The FX fee is waived for the first S$5,000 per month. Converting beyond that within the month will also incur a 1% fee.
Complicated Currency Exchange
You can set up foreign currency exchange orders to buy or sell currency to profit from the best FX rates, but it may require some knowledge of setting market orders, limit orders and stop orders. So you should definitely learn the basics of FX trading before experimenting in your Revolut app.
Fixed Currency Order for Auto Spending
Should you run out of local currency when making a purchase, Revolut will automatically take money from your base currency (SGD), followed by the next active currency with enough balance. This doesn’t secure the best FX rate for you, unlike Wise.
No MYR Wallet
The MYR wallet is most notably missing from Revolut’s digital wallet. If you’re a frequent shopper in Malaysia, then the Revolut card will not be the best for you.

✅ SmartConversion feature always spends from the currency with the best rate
✅ Transparent conversion fees
✅ Set up 3 digital cards per day

Wise Multi-Currency Card
If we’re talking about which card can hold the most foreign currencies, then Wise definitely takes the cake, edging out the competition with 47 currencies.
47 CURRENCIES:
(24 with account details) AED, AUD, BGN, CAD, CHF, CNY, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, HUF, ILS, JPY, MYR (only for Malaysian residents), NZD, NOK, PLN, SEK, SGD, TRY, UGX, USD, ZAR
(23 without account details) BDT, CFA, CLP, COP, CRC, EGP, GEL, INR, IDR, KES, KRW, LKR, MXN, NGN, NPR, PHP, PKR, RON, THB, TZS, UAH, UYU, VND
Wise VS Revolut Currencies
Most popular currencies are available on both platforms, however, there are some that you can find on Wise but not on Revolut. Particularly, if you’re visiting some countries in south Asia or Africa, it may be more advantageous to go with Wise.
On Wise but not on Revolut | On Revolut but not on Wise |
BDT (Bangladesh taka) CFA (West African franc) CRC (Costa Rica colon) GEL (Georgia lari) KES (Kenya shilling) LKR (Sri Lanka rupee) MYR (Malaysia ringgit) NGN (Nigeria naira) NPR (Nepal rupee) PKR (Pakistan rupee) TZS (Tanzania shilling) UAH (Ukraine hryvnia) UGX (Uganda shilling) UYU (Uruguay peso) | ISK (Iceland krona) KZT (Kazakhstan tenge) MAD (Morocco dirham) QAR (Qatar rial) RSD (Serbia dinar) SAR (Saudi Arabia riyal) |
Automatically Secure the Best FX Rates
One of the biggest benefits of using Wise is how it always works hard in the background to secure the best FX rates for you. Two clever ways it does so are through:
Set Up Easy Auto Conversions
Forget checking daily FX rates, because Wise does it all for you. Just set up the amount you’d like to convert at the foreign exchange rate of your choice, and Wise will automatically activate the conversion when it hits your chosen rate. It even offers you an easy-to-read graph of recent exchange rates so that you can choose a realistic but most beneficial exchange rate. Set it and forget it, it’s that simple.
Smart Conversion Technology
Wise always spends from local currency first, but if your balance falls short, their Smart Conversion feature always spends from the currency with the best live exchange rate. This sets it apart from the other cards, because the rest follow a fixed order of currencies, which may not necessarily offer the best FX rate.
Transparent Conversion Fees
Wise is the only card that charges you a small FX fee for every currency conversion. They chose to do this instead of marketing “No FX fees” (and bundling fees into the conversion rate) so that every Wise user can see the breakdown of exactly what they are paying for.
Digital Cards
With a Wise account you can add up to 3 digital cards per day, which will share different details to your Wise card. Digital cards add an extra layer of protection when shopping online, purchasing subscriptions, or making purchases when overseas. Simply freeze your digital card after each purchase and keep it frozen until you want to use it again, or generate new ones.
Wise App
Not only can you easily freeze and unfreeze your physical and digital cards within the app, you can also set up spending limits, savings Jars, and add another person to your card (something like a secondary cardholder). Wise will also alert you if your local currency balance is low and remind you to top up.
Receive Money in Many Currencies
What also sets Wise apart is the ability to receive money in 23 currencies, each with their own local bank account details, without any international fees. This is great for getting paid or receiving money from overseas.
What We Don’t Like About the Wise Card
❌ Limited free ATM withdrawals
❌ Can’t receive MYR
Limited Free ATM Withdrawals
You only get 2 free ATM withdrawals a month, thereafter it’s S$1.50 per withdrawal, regardless of the amount. And if you withdraw more than S$350, you get penalised with a 1.75% fee. What this means: Your third withdrawal that is above S$350 means you’re paying both the S$1.50 fee and the 1.75% fee. That being said, if you don’t intend to withdraw any money on your trips, and just keep it as an emergency resource, then using Wise shouldn’t be an issue.
Can’t Receive Malaysian Ringgit
You can have a MYR balance, convert money to MYR, and spend from your MYR wallet without issue. The only thing you can’t do is receive MYR if you’re not a Malaysian resident. It just means that you cannot get paid in or receive money from friends and family in MYR.

Multiple Top-Up Options
YouTrip offers the most number of ways to top up your digital wallet balance at no charge. Choose between PayNow, linked bank account, and linked debit or credit card.

What We Don’t Like About the YouTrip Card:
❌ Fixed currency order for auto spending
❌ Pre-authorisation for petrol in Malaysia
Fixed Currency Order for Auto Spending
YouTrip offers a SmartExchange function which automatically converts money for you if you run out of local currency in your YouTrip wallet. However, it follows a fixed order^, which doesn’t exactly secure the best FX rate for you, unlike Wise.
^ YouTrip’s SmartExchange works in this order specifically:
SGD, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, HKD, AUD, NZD, CHF, SEK, MYR, THB.
Pre-Authorisation Needed for Petrol in Malaysia
If you’re paying for petrol in Malaysia with your YouTrip card, you have to pay a pre-authorisation sum of RM200 (or otherwise set by that particular petrol station) to verify that the card is active and that you have sufficient balance. Whatever your transaction costs, the unutilised amount will get refunded to you in 3-5 working days. While this is understandable, it may give you some shock when it happens to you. Plus, you always have to make sure that you have enough in your MYR wallet to account for this.
