DirectAsia.com has raised more than $7,000 to help the poor in Indonesia regain their sight.
Our aim at DirectAsia.com is to change the face of insurance. Caring for our customers and society in general is at the very heart of what we're about.
With this in mind, Nicolas Faquet, CEO of DirectAsia.com Hong Kong, got on his bike and cycled from Thailand to Singapore in just 43 hours.
This grueling 800 km ride was done by 15 cyclists to help raise awareness and funds to support A New Vision. This is a Singaporean NGO that every year helps thousands of people in Indonesia suffering from cataracts to recover their sight. This low cost eight-minute surgery is changing people's lives.
The money raised from the employees of DirectAsia.com will enable up to 70 people to have the sight-saving surgery. Overall, this ride has raised more than 80,000 SGD for this cause, which will help to cure hundreds of patients.
Nicolas Faquet, said: "Helping people in distress and bringing them a solution for a better life is our goal here at DirectAsia.com. It was a grueling ride and it has been hard work, we swore and shouted at each other to keep the pace up, we endured a lot of pain but we did it!"
More on A New Vision:
A new vision is an organization led by renowned humanitarian Dr. Sanduk Ruit that provides free cataract surgery to thousands of impoverished blind people in Asia with a focus in Indonesia. The organization also trains local eye practitioners so they can continue to help cure blindness in their community. Since inception in December 2010, A New Vision has restored sight to over 1,500 people who would otherwise remain blind forever.
