Boarding a plane is your first step to going on that holiday you’ve been dreaming of! So it only makes sense that the last thing you want is to fall sick during the plane ride, ruining the perfect getaway you’ve spent months planning!
Though there’s only so much room you have on a plane, you’d be surprised how choosing your seats wisely can end up safeguarding you from catching a cold. So here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when you’re choosing your seats on your next flight!
Avoid Aisle Seats
The worst place for catching germs are the aisle seats! Here, you’ll come in contact with a lot more people over the course of your flight as other passengers make their way up and down the aisle.
Staff who service all the other passengers on the plane will also frequently pass by your seats and come into contact with you more, making you much more susceptible to germs!
Avoid Seats Near Emergency Exit Windows
While some people suggest sitting at the emergency exit seats to get a little more leg room on your flight, it might not be the best idea if you’re worried about falling sick! Not only do colder temperatures promote the spread of germs and viruses, but sitting in cold and dry air for long periods of time can trigger allergies, negatively affect your body’s overall immune system.
Window Seats Are Best
With so many people crammed into a tight space, germs travel around on planes pretty easily. Sitting at the window seat is the best way to stay as far away from them as possible because you reduce the amount of interaction you have with people who move around the plane.
Precautions to Take While Traveling
Avoid moving too much
Just like with our aisle seat tip, we don’t recommend moving around the plane too much because it promotes contact with other people on the plane. Of course, we can’t avoid the odd trip to the washroom here and there, but with that in mind, keep your trips to the lavatory to a minimum where possible. For instance, don’t make separate trips to use the facilities, freshen up, or change your clothes. Instead, do them all at once if you can, and strap in for the rest of your flight!
Observe proper hygiene
Last but not least, always observe good personal hygiene (this goes for when you’re off the plane as well)! With the amount of germs and bacteria around, we don’t just have to beware of the people we come into contact with, but the surfaces on the plane as well! Travel safely for a peace of mind.
We recommend keeping your liquid sanitizers, antibacterial wipes and face masks close by, since you’ll never know when you’ll need a quick refresher. If you’re don’t have the habit of having these things with you, start as early as today by popping them into your bag, along with your face masks and start travelling safely. Another thing to note is that masks require proper handling as well. Don’t chuck them onto seats, or touch them without cleaning your hands prior, otherwise you might end up actually introducing bacteria and germs to the surface of your mask, which go directly over your nose and mouth!
