Warden: This country is safe again, Superman, thanks to you.
Superman: No, sir. Don’t thank me, Warden. We’re all part of the same team. Good night.
Superman, Warner Brothers, 1978
Being a superhero has it’s perks. You get to be (pretty much) indestructible, you get special powers like super stretchy arms or the ability to scale skyscapers and you get to save the world from a terrible fate. OK so you may find yourself at the mercy of a superbaddy from time to time, but you always come out a winner in the end.
Maybe that’s why we love superheroes. It’s all in the happy ending. But when you get past the flashy costumes, super high-tech gear, and pure entertainment value of superheroes, what draws us into their stories and what they stand for?
2013 has been a bumper year for fans of the superhero genre – Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, The Wolverine and already slated for 2014 are The Amazing Spiderman, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“The revival of the genre has surpassed all expectations, with six of the top 12 highest opening-weekend box office grosses being held by superhero movies. There are many theories as to why these films have become and remained so popular over the last decade.” wisegeek.com
Dedication, aspiration and achievement
Superheroes seem to represent the sum of the best qualities in each of us. They are selfless, compassionate, just, kind and respectful. Yes, some of them have their flaws (that’s you Batman), but for the most part they embody the best in us. They put their lives on the line, overcome impossible odds and steadfastly help those that need helping. They always give more than it is reasonable to expect.
Superheroes offer the distinct possibility of a happy ending and the triumph of good over evil. The theme of the superhero’s story is one of dedication, aspiration and achievement. Hope.
And then there are those fabulous one-liners.
“I believe there’s a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams.” Spider Man 2
“When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world – No. You move.” Captain America
Captain America: Big man in a suit of amour. Take that off, what are you?
Ironman: Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.
“If anyone knows what it’s like to be on the outside, I do. Sometimes I feel like I’m out there fighting all alone. Sometimes I feel like giving up. But, then I remember that what I stand for is more important than anything else.” Superman
I wonder how much of a Superhero you have to be? How many balls you are juggling? Life can be full on sometimes. So here’s the good news. At DirectAsia.com, we have our very own superhero here to help make life a little easier.
Robin Hood – Here To Help You
Robin Hood is famous for fighting for justice and a better life for hard-working people. For getting people a fair deal, for honesty and transparency. These are ideals that we at DirectAsia.com hold dear. DirectAsia.com’s CEO explains,
“So far, advertising for insurance here has remained traditional and rather boring. You know the ones with impossibly good looking families with perfect teeth standing under umbrellas etc. Our latest campaign aims to change all that, as well as change people’s negative perceptions about the way insurance is done.”
Historically, insurance provision in Singapore has been costly, slow and a little old fashioned. We are passionate about changing all that. Robin Hood embodies our fresh, exciting and very direct approach to insurance, and champions our message that great, low cost insurance is now available to people across Singapore – along with amazing customer service!
Everyone needs a superhero sometimes. Someone to help take the load off. Robin Hood is stepping up for drivers, motorcyclists, homeowners and travellers across Singapore. There is a better, cheaper and smarter way to buy your insurance, and we think it’s time everyone knows about it.
