Home Insurance > FAQ
Yes, you can pay your premium in monthly instalments with your credit card at no additional cost. We will collect two months premium when you first take out the cover.
No, this would not be possible. We need to take care of our customer’s interests and security, so the credit card holder must be the policy holder. Your security matters to us. You may want to consider payment by cash or cheque.
We have to exclude some people so that we can keep your premium down.
We cannot cover you if:
- Your property is rented out. We don’t insure landlords for now. BUT do look out for an update as we are working on a home insurance policy designed specifically for you. Do leave your email so we can send you details of this policy coming soon. Please .
- You have had your home insurance either declined or you have only been accepted on special terms.
- Your property will be left unoccupied for more than 60 days in a row.
- Your property has suffered from flooding, severe structural movement or subsidence landslide.
- Your property is being used for business. If you carry business supplies or there are people visiting your home for business purposes then we can’t insure you. However, if you work alone from home as a freelance consultant or writer then we can insure you.
The information you provide to us via this website is securely encrypted as it travels between your computer and our computers. The secure connection is over a protocol called secure socket layer - SSL, making it extremely difficult for others to access your information. Two ways of knowing when you are using a secured section of our website is to look for the small padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of your browser and secondly the web address in your browser window will start with "https" instead of "http"
For contents
Select all the more costly items in your home such as computers, rugs, televisions, hi-fi sets, furniture, beds, jewellery and bags. Then add on any smaller items such as VCDs, books, toys and kitchenware and calculate the total value of all these items together.
For fixtures, fittings and renovations
Calculate the cost of any renovations including the installation of air-con units. If you are a tenant and these things are covered under your lease agreement with your landlord then we suggest you select zero insurance cover when getting your quote.
For buildings
As is the case with all building insurance, your home isn’t insured for the market value. Instead we estimate an average reconstruction cost of:
| HDB: |
 |
S$90,000 for a 3 room HDB |
 |
S$120,000 for a 4 room HDB |
 |
S$150,000 for a 5 room HDB |

Yes, you still need to be covered for your home contents, valuables and your personal liability. So if you’re a tenant then our core home insurance cover is for you.
And please take note: Fixtures, fittings and renovations are generally covered under the lease agreement with your landlord, so we advise you to check this out. If you’re already covered for fixtures and fittings then you don’t need to include this cover in your policy with us.
When you’re getting a quote you will be asked to choose how much coverage for fixtures and fittings, please select zero if you don’t want this cover.
We don’t want you paying for something you already have, even though the additional cost is minimal. We want you to pay the premium that’s right for you and no more, that’s all part of our pledge to be upfront, fair and transparent.
Yes, you are covered. Our includes personal legal liability. That means you would be covered for such an incident. You’d also be covered if a visitor, for instance, slipped in your home and broke a leg.
You are covered by a standard basic building insurance. This means you’re merely covered for damage to the walls, ceilings and doors of your property if there’s a fire. You can’t claim if you have any other disasters such as burst pipes, flooding or burglary.
Many people aren’t aware too that their home contents and most valued possessions such as clothes, shoes, bags, bikes, washing machines, furniture and computers, are not included in this basic building insurance.
So, if you do have a fire, burst pipes or your home is burgled then you won’t be able to claim the cost of your lost or damaged belongings or even property. DirectAsia.com has put together a comprehensive plan that not only covers your belongings but so much more and all for the price it costs to buy your daily newspaper.
We make it simple for you to take out our cover for immediate peace of mind. We don’t ask for receipts of your home contents or photos of your property. You’ll need to know your NRIC number.
You can get a home insurance quote by following our simple step by step guide. You can go straight ahead and take out your cover which can take effect immediately if you choose. You can print your policy documents straight away. If you need time to gather more information, then you can save your quote and go back to it at a later date. Your quote will be saved in our system and is valid for 90 days.
