Yes you will have to pay the policy excess if your car catches fire or is stolen.

We underwrite and price on the information we receive. Honest disclosure is fundamental to the insurance contract. Pricing is based on risk, and the age and experience of the driver is a major factor in determining price.

The importance of the accuracy of the named main driver is very explicit in the quote process on our site, as it is a fundamental basis for calculating the premium you would pay.

Sadly, there are cases where the main driver (the person who uses the car most of the time) hides behind a better profile driver. This is a fraudulent behaviour called 'fronting'.

It is DirectAsia.com's policy to pay fairly and promptly for all legitimate claims and to carefully consider all claims which suggest 'fronting' so that we can bring more competitive rates to the motoring industry.

The policyholder should be the registered owner of the vehicle – we cannot insure you if you are not the owner of the car.

No, we will not pay you for your modifications since these will have been done by you or a previous owner after the car was first registered. We will only cover you for the original standard equipment by the maker or distributor and we can decide whether to replace or repair these items or pay you the cost to do this. However, if you take up the optional benefit of My Accessories, we will cover you for the modified accessories with additional premium. However, all these modified accessories have to be LTA compliant and/or approved.

Here is a list of LTA compliant car accessories that you can insure: Air intake/exhaust system Body kit Car camera In-vehicle entertainment system Rims/tyres Solar film Suspension/stabiliser system

Yes, your policy remains valid even if you have had modifications done to your car, provided these modifications are LTA compliant and/or approved.
We will cover you for accessories and spare parts for your car provided these were fitted as standard by the maker or distributor at the time your car was originally bought and they were on your car at the time of the accident, loss or theft. We can decide whether to replace or repair these items or pay you the cost to do this. However, this will depend on the type of plan you have. Check this out in our section what we cover. However, if the accessories installed are aftermarket (i.e. not standard equipment by the maker or distributor), we have the optional benefit of My Accessories which you can take up to cover them under your policy for a fee. Note: these accessories installed must be LTA compliant and/or approved. Here is a list of LTA compliant car accessories that you can insure: Air intake/exhaust system Body kit Car camera In-vehicle entertainment system Rims/tyres Solar film Suspension/stabiliser system
No, this would not be possible. The credit cardholder must be the policyholder. Your security matters to us. You may also pay via cash or cheque.
Yes, you can pay your premium in monthly instalments with your credit card at no additional cost.
Your chassis number. You can get this by logging onto LTA website. Your NRIC and that of your named drivers. Your previous registration number if you plan to transfer your NCD to a new car. And of course your credit card details. It's that simple!
Yes, just call us at 6665 5555 or come to our office at 88 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058716.
Yes. You just need to tell your car dealer that you will be getting your car insurance from DirectAsia.com.
If you decide you'd like to purchase you can make payment and print your policy documents straight away. If you need time to gather more information, the quote will be saved in our system and is valid for 90 days.

We make our policies in such a way that you pay only for what you need. Here are a number of ways you can cut costs on your premium.

  1. You can select your level of cover according to your needs
  2. The higher the excess you choose to pay, the lower the premium (only for Comprehensive)
  3. Certain car models are more expensive to insure than others. Purchasing a safer new vehicle will lower you premium
  4. Choose only the options you need
Your car insurance premium is based on a number of factors including driver profile which looks at your age, driving experience, No Claim Discount and the number of young and/or inexperienced drivers named on your policy. We also take into account the car's make, model and age. The excess you choose will also affect your premium. The higher the excess, the lower the premium. (Note: This only applies to our Comprehensive plan). Any optional benefits you choose will also affect your premium.
An excess is the amount that you must contribute towards the cost of a claim. The type of excess and the amount payable will be shown on the Schedule. If you make a claim, you will have to pay us any excess that applies. The excess in your policy only applies to own damage and windscreen claims.
Your Certificate of Merit (COM) from the Traffic Police entitles you to a discount over and above your NCD. This is your Offence Free Discount (read more information). At DirectAsia.com we reward safe drivers.

If you have been a named driver on someone else's insurance, you are not entitled to any NCD.

But if you have been driving a company car and you then buy a personal car, you would be allowed to transfer the NCD provided you can show the number of claims' free years you have with a letter from the HR department of your employer or from the leasing company.

If you select NCD Protection under our optional benefits then we will protect your No Claim Discount (NCD) when you make up to one claim under your policy and if you renew with us.
A No Claim Discount is a discount that we offer you on your renewal premium if there are no claims on your policy during the current period of insurance. You may still be entitled to a No Claim Discount even if you have made a claim, provided you are not liable for the accident and that you have been insured with us for the past 12 months. Here's more details on NCD and who is eligible.
No, you do not need to select Private and business use to make a few business calls. This is so long as you inform us when you plan to do so. You can make business calls up to five times per policy at no extra cost.
Private use: You are only using your car in the course of your private life and for leisure. Private use and commuting to work: You are also using your car to go to and from your office. Private and business use: You are also using your car for and during the course of your work. Off Peak Car: You drive a car with a red plate registration in Singapore. We impose no restriction on usage. More information on usage.

Your policy covers you when your car is in Singapore, West Malaysia and Southern Thailand (this is the part of Thailand within 80km of the border between Thailand and Malaysia.) You can also choose to lower your premium for opting to drive in Singapore only.

You will only be covered for loss or damage to your vehicle when you drive in Singapore only but you will still be covered for third-party bodily injury and third-party property damage and any optional benefits you have under your policy in Singapore, West Malaysia and Southern Thailand (this is the part of Thailand within 80km of the border between Thailand and Malaysia)

This depends on what driver plans you have selected: Value, Value Plus or Flexible.
Here is a checklist of who is eligible for our car insurance

  • The policyholder must be the registered owner of the vehicle – we cannot insure you if you are not the owner of the car.
  • The main driver is the person that uses the car most frequently – they must be aged 70 years old and below, with at least 2 years' valid driving licence.
  • Young and/or inexperienced drivers are drivers aged below 30 and/ or with less than 2 years' valid driving licence. You only need to name young and/ or inexperienced drivers on your policy and you can name up to 2 people.

Most other companies will insure any number of young and/ or inexperienced drivers which means that even if you don’t have such drivers you will be paying for those that do.

At DirectAsia.com you only pay for what you need.

We have to exclude some drivers to keep your premium down

We cannot cover you if:

  • You have been declined when trying to renew your policy in the last 3 years. Or you have had your policy terminated in the last 3 years.
  • You've had your licence cancelled or suspended in the last 5 years.
  • You are driving a commercial vehicle.

We do not insure certain professions. These are:

  • Personnel of foreign armed forces
  • Professionals who are involved with the entertainment industry
  • Professional sportsmen or sportswomen
  • Foreign diplomats and foreign diplomatic staff
  • Driving instructors requiring business use
Your security matters to us. The information you provide to us via this website is securely encrypted as it travels between your computer and our computers. The secure connection is over a protocol called secure socket layer - SSL, making it extremely difficult for others to access your information. Two ways of knowing when you are using a secured section of our website is to look for the small padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of your browser and secondly the web address in your browser window will start with "https instead of "http"."
If the repair cost is higher than the economic repair value, we may then settle the claim as a constructive total loss. The economic value is the difference between market value and residual value (COE and PARF).; You can, however, still have your vehicle repaired even when the cost is more than the economic repair value. The GIA recommends insurers pay the economic repair value plus 50% of the difference (up to $5,000) between the actual cost of repair and the economic repair value.
We do not cover personal items that are stolen from your vehicle. For example laptop, cash card and accessories.
DirectAsia.com is entitled to void a policy and treat it as if it never existed if you have intentionally mis-declared the main driver for your policy just to obtain a lower premium.; We underwrite and price on the information we receive and honest disclosure is fundamental to the insurance contract. Pricing is based on risk, and the age and experience of the driver is a major factor in determining price.; The importance of the accuracy of the main driver is very explicit in the quote process on our site, as it is a fundamental basis for calculating the premium you would pay. This is explicitly stressed, and forms the basis of the contract which the customer enters into.; There are, however, cases in which the main driver (the person who uses the car most frequently) hides behind a better profile driver. This is a fraudulent behaviour called 'fronting'.; It is DirectAsia.com's policy to pay fairly and promptly for all legitimate claims and to carefully consider all claims which suggest 'fronting' so that we can bring more competitive rates to the motoring industry.
Yes. We usually factor COE in with the market value of the car.
Yes. Typically the COE is a component of the market value of the car.
The market value of a car is calculated by looking at the price of a similar car(brand, model, age) available in the market at the time of accident.

Windscreens and windows are covered against damage. We will charge an excess of S$100 if we have to replace windows or windscreens, but this is waived if we can repair the damage ourselves. We will send someone to you to carry out the work at your convenience. (Note: This only applies to our Comprehensive plan)

We do not provide a courtesy car, but you can take out our optional benefit called Loss of use.

With this benefit we will pay you a daily rate of S$50 to help you with transport costs while your car is being repaired (up to a maximum of 10 days per accident and 20 days per year).

As a valued customer of DirectAsia.com, you can use your car outside of your declared usage up to 5 times a year by calling us at 6665 5555 or sending an email informing us of your upcoming usage at CarUsage@DirectAsia.com.;

If you use your car outside of your declared usage and you forget to inform us beforehand, an additional excess of S$1,500 would apply if you are involved in an accident during this usage; If you have misdeclared your usage at the quotation stage, that is, you are using your car frequently during the course of your work but only took Private Usage, or if you drive frequently to your work place but took only Private Usage, we reserve the right to reduce or reject your claim altogether.

If you make a claim under this policy and you have other insurance covering the same damage or loss then we are liable to contribute a pro-rated amount in the event of a claim.
It is advisable to make a claim on your own insurance policy. Making a claim against motorists from another country can turn out to be costly and time-consuming. If you are not at fault and you are able to provide the registration number of the third party vehicle you will only be asked to pay the own damage excess on repairs. Your NCD will not be affected.
Make a police report in the place the accident or loss occurred and do so within 24 hours. No refund will be given if there is an accident reported and/or claim made under your insurance policy. We reserve the right to collect any outstanding premium from you if you have opted for our instalment payment plan.
For premium paid via credit card, we will credit the premium refund to the same credit card account originally used. For cash or cheque payment, DirectAsia.com will send you a refund via cheque. You will receive your premium refund within ten working days.
No, different insurers have different methods of computing refunds.
We will only refund via cheque if the original payment method is by cash or cheque. Sorry we cannot refund you with cash.
There are many things taken into consideration when calculating premiums particularly risk factors including vehicle model, capacity, and driver's profile. The market value of the car is not considered to be a direct risk factor because it does not influence the claims received from third parties for property damage and injuries. Also, repair cost for motor vehicles continues to increase therefore impacting insurance premiums.
There are a number of factors involved in pricing premiums. Firstly, there may be an increase in claims for your car make and model, which will lead to higher premiums. The higher price may also be driven by inflation. For example, increased repair costs, legal fees and medical costs means increased insurance premiums to keep up with these costs in general.
If the overall claims experience is bad that year then insurance companies have to increase their premiums across the board for all motorists irrespective of whether you have made a claim or not. If you have a clean driving record, though, your premium will still be lower than those with accident claims.
We do not allow a change of plan in the middle of the policy. It can be done, however, after the policy has lapsed.
Yes. If you do not fully and faithfully tell us everything you know or could reasonably be expected to know that is relevant to our decision to give you the insurance, you may receive no benefit from your policy or we may cancel your policy and treat it as never having existed.
